People gathered in Sir Winston Churchill Square on Sunday afternoon to demonstrate in support of the escalating anti-government protests in Turkey.

The demonstrations in Turkey were ignited on Friday by a police crackdown on a peaceful sit-in to prevent the uprooting of trees in Taksim Square in Istanbul, and have since spread around the country.

More than 1,000 people are estimated to have been injured as a result of these violent clashes.
