In Edmonton, dozens stood in the rain to show solidarity with Turks protesting overseas.
“One tree has fallen, one nation has awoken, Turkey is not alone,” read one of the many signs being held high in the square. “Resistance against the dictatorship,” proclaimed another.
“We wanted to show the people in Turkey that they are not alone,” said Basak Sahin, who organized Sunday’s rally. “Even on the other side of the world, there are people that are supporting them.”
