Canada in Solidarity with Turkey
This event will gather supporters mainly from Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal in solidarity with the protests going on in Turkey against violations on basic human rights such as freedom of expression and right to peaceful assembly.
What started as a peaceful protest to stop the unlawful demolition of a public park in Istanbul has spread throughout Turkey and resulted in protests in all major cities against the excessive use of force by Turkish police in peaceful protests resulting in multiple injuries in unarmed civilians, against the government’s dismissal of public opinion on all fronts, and against the main stream media’s lack of coverage on these important events.
This is why we will have a peaceful gathering on Parliament Hill, to voice our concerns, and to attract the Canadian people and politicians’ attention to the worrisome developments in Turkey.
This event will continue with candlelight vigil in front of Parliament Hill to support the protests in Turkey, and honor those who have died and are injured as a result of police violence. Join the facebook group to show your support.
Again, this is NOT an ordinary protest gone awry. It is a legitimate and urgent call for help. Protests have spread to all other cities in Turkey and protesters are being subjected to unacceptable violence.
Students across Ontario and Quebec along with community members are gathering in front of the Parliament Hill at 6PM for demonstration which will be followed by a Candlelight vigil starting at 8PM to show solidarity with those in Turkey.
We are organizing buses from Toronto and Montreal. It is of utmost importance that we gather in Ottawa as we want Prime Minister Stephen Harper to address the protests in the House. Please get in touch with us if you would like to help.
