How can I help?

On May 27, 2013, peaceful Turkish citizens gathered in a much cherished park in the center of Istanbul, one of the last remaining green refuges in the area. The construction crews started demolition and tree removal operations to replace the park with a regeneration project including a shopping mall.

From day one, police have violently attacked peaceful protesters using tear gas and water cannons in an effort to disperse them. The protesters grew in numbers, and demonstrations spread throughout Turkey, growing beyond the preservation of access to public spaces to defending basic democratic rights. Turkish police forces across the country continued to use excessive force causing civilian injuries in the hundreds.
